Which styles, colors, and sizes of handbags are hot for Spring 2009?

Rechelle: I think this spring will be all about bold and daring colors. The limit for styles, sizes, and colors will actually be limitless.

Sarah-Jean: We'll be seeing a lot of clutches and small handbags in a variety of pastel colors like mauve, yellow, sage green, dusty sky blue, light purple, and other soft tones. We’ll be looking more for small, refined, feminine bags.

Tracy: Hot colors for spring handbags and fashion in general are hot pink, yellow, and other bright and neon colors. Zipper details and block colors are in.

Shari: Strong and bright colors (hot pink, red, mint green) with exotic skins are being shown as the "must have" - especially ostrich. Lace is also very hot on handbags-- it dresses up even your most casual jeans.

Ashley: Hobo bags seem to be all the rage this season. They have all the space you need to throw in your cell phone, planner, wallet, and keys. Depending on the brand you buy as well, you can be as rough on the bag as you want without having to worry about your items being lost or falling out because of the space.

Kori: Eco-friendly totes in cotton canvas, straw and recycled materials are all hot choices.


Looks like hobos, totes, pastels, zippers, and exotic skins are in for Spring!



If you had to pick one "must-have" style/color trend for Spring, what would it be?

Sarah-Jean: Yellow is THE color for Spring! I think a must-have for every girl this spring is a lemon yellow tote. Nothing over the top, just simple lines and traditional.

Tracy: I think bright colors like yellow and hot pink are the must-have trend for spring. This also fits in with the mod, block color trend. It's nice to jazz things up after a long, drab winter.

Ashley: Since the start of Awards Season in January, it has become apparent that nice, cool, but still illuminating (and even a tad metallic) natural colors, like coral, pearl, and pink are the colors of the season.

When it comes to handbags, what style or color is a Spring faux pas?

Rechelle: Metallics have been in the fashion scene for a while but I think that a lot of other colors and styles could be tried other than metallics this Spring.

Shari: Trying to pass off your dark and dull winter colored bag (excluding black) would be a major faux pas.

Kori: Super oversized bags. Your handbag shouldn't overwhelm your body and it's not a suitcase. If you can fit your laptop, a blow dryer and a year's worth of Glamour magazines in your bag, it's too big.


Giraffe Print handbags have been hot for a while. What will be the next trendy animal print?

Rechelle: Cow prints would be interesting!

Sarah-Jean: I'd like to see more Zebra prints this spring because it's simple, but sassy and you can really mix it up by doing a black zebra stripe on a hot pink background.


Giraffe prints may be on their way out, but look what's on its way in!




Which celebrities can we expect to set these trends first?

Tracy: I could see Rihanna carrying an animal print hobo bag or clutch; Angelina Jolie with a structured, zipper-detailed bag; Paris Hilton with a block-color purse; and Mischa Barton carrying a colorful '80s-inspired bag.

Shari: Victoria Beckham and Paris Hilton are very into their fashion and I would not be surprised to see them with an animal print or very funky colored bag for Spring.

Ashley: We need to be on the lookout for the new kids on the block. Those include Ashley Tisdale, who absolutely adores carrying around Louis Vuitton, anything that Miley Cyrus touches, and the girls from The Hills and The City.

Kori: Lauren Conrad, Hilary Duff and some of the other younger stars are always a good place to start. Also Eva Longoria, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan are usually on top of the latest and greatest handbags.
