Red lips are not only a symbol of class and elegance, they’re a bold trend that every woman should try, even just once. I’ve always been afraid to try the red lip, but it’s amazing how powerful this color is! It makes you feel sexy and glamorous, even if you’re sporting jeans and a white tee. There are some tricks to getting the red lip just right, because if you do it wrong, it can look pretty bad.

- Exfoliate your lips! A highly pigmented lipstick like red will stick to the dead skin and look blotchy, so you want to gently exfoliate your lips by using a dry toothbrush or disposable mascara wand. Scrub in tiny circles around your whole lip.
- Line your lips with a nude lip liner to prevent the red from feathering. {I also swipe a bit of lip balm on in this step.}
- Apply the lipstick.
- Set the color with translucent powder to seal it in. {Or, blot with a tissue old-school style.}
- Swipe on a second coat of lipstick using a lip brush to make everything look smooth and polished.
Voila, a gorgeous red lip!
Tip: When wearing a bold red lip, remember to keep the rest of your makeup minimal. You want those lips to be the real focus!
