Craving Color? Our Editor’s Top Picks for Summer 2012

There are signs of summer all around the Handbag Heaven office: strappy sandals, bright pops of color, bare legs, and in my case, painful sun burns. It’s time to retire the boring black and brown sweaters, shed layers of clothing (wear sunscreen, kids), and let loose, because when it comes to these warm months, there are no set style standards.

“Summer is filled with breaking the rules and standing apart, ignoring your head and following your heart.”

Summer is truly the time that “anything goes”. Wearing minimal clothing is actually acceptable, mixing and matching colors is applauded, and comfort reigns king. So in the spirit of fashion-freedom, I asked my fellow editors to share their picks for summer 2012 colors, and of course, their go-to handbag. Not surprisingly, the answers were varied and unique to each summer girl.

Keep reading to find out what we’ll be wearing and share your signature summer color in the comments!

Bethany

Neon handbag “My color obsession for the summer is neon yellow!  This vibrant color has the ability to turn a muted, neutral outfit into an eye-popping, head-turning ensemble. This psychedelic color just makes my heart happy!  I often wear this bold color in accent pieces: jewelry, scarves or handbags!  Think Pretty In Pink attire-but modernized- and you have captured my summer look!”

“That is why my choice is the Chelsea Satchel!”

Molly

Pink bag “I’m a sucker for all shades of pink, from pretty pastels to neon hues. Plus, pink looks good with just about every other color in my summertime wardrobe: my favorite of-the-moment pairings are pink and navy. I also love pink for all occasions! Going out on a warm summer night? Color block a fuchsia top with a figure-hugging citrus skirt (don’t forget to swipe some pink on those lips, too). Need a chic daytime do? Pair an oversized pale pink blouse with your favorite distressed jeans. Every lady needs a feminine touch in her wardrobe, and I absolutely love that pink can be both punchy and edgy.”

“My handbag pick? This Molly Patent Crossbody Bag (although the name might have swayed my vote a bit) ;)”

Maggie

Colorblock Clutch “My go-to color for summer 2012 is definitely turquoise! I’m the epitome of a beach bum and the fresh, vibrant hue instantly reminds me of bright blue water and transports me to my lounge chair. I love to liven up an understated outfit with a splash of bold turquoise jewelry or a fabulously bright turquoise bag. For a bolder look, I like to pair a solid turquoise or teal blouse with white pants or wear my favorite turquoise shorts with a solid-colored neutral top. It’s the beach in outfit form!”

“My handbag pick? Hands down, the totally turquoise Reese Clutch.”

Stacie

Hippie Fringe Bag “I am all about mustard this summer– as a color it pairs perfectly with my favorite breezy sundresses and as a condiment it tastes great on those wonderful hot-weather hamburgers. ;)  #AmIright? I’m the kind of girl that carries my life (and camera) around with me whenever I go somewhere, so a stylish backpack is definitely a good handbag choice for me.”

“My handbag pick? This fringed beauty in mustard yellow. Pair it with a floral print for a bohemian feel or with some denim cutoffs for an edgier vibe.”

Sarah

Woven Summer Clutch “This summer I’m all about wearing coral. It’s an easy color to transition from early spring all the way through summer, and pairs beautifully with tons of other bright hues. My all time favorite color combination is coral and blue – so beachy! I also love coral when paired with neutrals, the color just pops and looks so happy.”

“My go-to bag this summer will definitely be the Terra Woven Clutch in blue. The texture and neutral look of the bag are perfect for a light summer dress and it’s great for dressing up or down.”

Have a colorful, almost-summer weekend!

xx,
