New Merch’ Monday: Broad Ripple Small Satchel

Playing the part of the little (and just as fabulous) sister to our massive Broad Ripple Satchel of days past, the Broad Ripple Small Satchel is ready to take center stage.  This luxe elbow-hanger, replete with tough detailing along the handles and punky hardware, is amazing for fall and winter.

Need a hands-free bag, you say?  Well, fret not, for the Broad Ripple comes with a detachable long strap you can throw over your shoulder like a Continental soldier.

Personally, I love the top of the bag, how it dips down just slightly in the middle.  The discreet details get me just as excited as the in-your-face flourishes do.

There’s something very cool about this motorcycle culture-inspired bag.  Whether it’s the bright, party gold hardware, the zippers, studs, buckles, and stitching, or the tough bronze, pewter, and black color options, the Broad Ripple Small Satchel is ready to rawk.

New Merch’ Monday: Dakota Convertable Backpack

I’ve had a love for all things convertible since childhood - age 5 to be exact.

Dakota Convertible Backpack

Dakota Convertible Backpack - Front

I remember it well: It was the day of my little sister’s birth and I was staying with a family friend because my mom and dad were at the hospital. I was a little down because I missed my parents and wasn’t particularly convinced that the little bundle of joy to come would be anything more than a life-ruiner who happened to look like me.  So after a matinee showing of 101 Dalmations (yes, it had just come out for the first time in theaters) we took a trip to the mall, where I received the COOLEST Barbie I’ve seen to this day. Why was it so cool? Because she wore a rockin’ gold puffy jacket (it was the early ’90s) that with a few alterations transformed into a miniskirt. I was hooked.

Here I am now having a similar reaction to the very chic Dakota Convertable Backpack. This lovely can be worn as a shoulder bag or backpack without any adjustment of the straps or clasps. Simply pull the strap up at bag’s top to throw over your shoulder, or pull the strap tight at each side to wear on your back. I know…I almost died too. Just take a deep breath, it helps.

The Dakota comes in black and brown leatherette and fastens at the front with a metallic clasp. Also don’t be fooled by these dinky pics, this thing is pretty darn roomy (16″ by 15.5″) - totally big enough to hold anything from books to baby bottles. It’s simple, convertible style is also a plus as it can be dressed up or down. Wear it as a backpack with jeans for class or the grocery store (is there anything better than hands-free shopping?), or throw it over your shoulder for dinner out.

The Dakota Convertible Backpack would also make the perfect gift for that friend (mom, daughter, niece…) who has everything. I’d be willing to bet she won’t have this!

How would you wear it?

New Merch’ Monday: Rohm Zipper Hobo

With a name inspired not only by one if the most revered cities in the world, but also by the verb, the Rohm Zipper Hobo is quickly becoming a coveted item here at Handbag Heaven. Its medium size makes it great for all handbag lovers, and the supple material is to die for.

Rohmin' in Grey

Rohmin' in Grey

Writing this, I honestly could not stop squeezing the handle. I don’t know what it is; it just feels amazing. Don’t make me explain my love.

Except I’m totally going to.

There are a couple types of handles I can imagine on this bag, but the wrapped spun material is perfect. It really allows the zipper detailing to take center stage. The balance between the zipper edge and the fabulous flower into which it spins is perfection. That, combined with the gathered material on the sides, makes this bag something of a contradiction.

But a good one. A really good one.

I’ve decided the Rohm is understated major. Take it in. Understated. Major. Only the Rohm makes this make sense. Many of the bag’s elements are understated: the grey or deep purple goes with everything, the size is modest, and there is nothing really flashy about it.

"Rohmans" love purple.

"Rohmans" love purple.

But a true enthusiast will drool over the details: deeply ruched sides, thick, looped handle wrapped around itself, extra seaming across the front, along the zipper tail lines of the flower, substantial, knotted zipper pulls…Major.

The ability to make a statement with any outfit, without becoming tired, is a rare one, and The Rohm Zipper Hobo will undoubtedly be one of those bags you are SO GLAD you added to your collection, for years to come, wherever you may rohm. Er, roam.
